Details: Who would have believed he could have such a global career in the mid-1980s? At 42, Brighton-based Norman Cook is nothing less than a living legend. The Brit, who first came to music history more than 20 years ago as the bassist of the popular guitar pop group The Housemartins, not only created a globally recognized seal of approval for sophisticated DJ, remix, and production skills under the name Fatboy Slim, but also, together with the Chemical Brothers, launched one of the most interesting pop trends of the past 20 years: Big Beat. At the height of this self-initiated boom, Fatboy Slim, who had previously gained extensive chart experience under various guises (including Beat International, Freakpower, and Pizza Man), released "You've Come a Long Way Baby," an international million-seller album featuring the genre-bending global hits "Rockafeller Skank," "Praise You," "Gangster Trippin'," and "Right Here Right Now." Along the way, Cook, and the directors of his groundbreaking video clips, revolutionized music television. Among other things, the short film for "Praise You," directed by Spike Jonze, was voted the "best video of all time" by MTV viewers. In June 2006, Fatboy Slim's first best-of album, "Why Try Harder - The Greatest Hits," was released. It contains not only the countless hits of the past ten years, but also Norman's legendary remixes of the singles "Brimful Of Asha" (Cornershop) and "I See You Baby" (Groove Armada). Furthermore, the eighteen-track retrospective includes two brand-new FBS productions, "Champion Sound" and "That Pair Of Old Jeans," the latter of which, a soulful retro-funk monster in the best "Praise You" style, is released as a single. During his career, Norman Cook sold more than eleven million copies of his four albums as Fatboy Slim. "Why Try Harder - The Greatest Hits" contains ten UK Top 20 singles and several number one hits. The Greatest Hits album is also available as a Limited Edition with a bonus DVD containing 10 of his best videos and as a Director's Cut DVD (release date: July 14, 2006) with all videos and tons of bonus material.
