Details: More than 140 years ago, the first instrument makers in Tuttlingen, a tranquil town in Swabia, established the tradition of handcrafting medical instruments. Since then, Tuttlingen has been synonymous with medical technology. Today, the international interdependencies of globalization are dramatically transforming the Swabian city and the industry that shapes it. Tuttlingen's compact environment contains all the forces and influences at work in the globalized economy. Here they are concentrated, in a very small space, not just figuratively speaking, in close proximity. They have faces, are people; the consequences result from personal decisions. The people we meet in the film, their places, their strategies and institutions, their mentalities, tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and high-tech, form a comprehensive mosaic of our time, the relevance of which extends far beyond Tuttlingen. At the same time, the film portrays a region where much of what has shaped it for well over a hundred years is in decline and will no longer be experienced in this way in just a few years. The small businesses in the basements and residential buildings that represent Tuttlingen's medical technology tradition will not survive the coming decades. We seize the opportunity to capture a special moment in which the remnants of industrialization collide with the manifestations of a globally connected high-tech economy. Bonus material: Impressions of Tuttlingen; Making of; Cinema trailer; Label fraud and plagiarism; Film with audio track; Director's commentary;
