Details: Amazon.de Autumn is many people's favorite season. When it slowly gets cold outside and the trees gradually lose their leaves, it's all the more important to have the right music on your stereo. Autumn Ballads offers 18 carefully selected suggestions for how to liven up rainy autumn afternoons. The notorious melancholics Lamb from Manchester kick things off with "Lullaby" from their 1999 album Fear Of Fours. A song that creeps along quietly, equipped with beautiful string sounds, in which singer Louise Rhodes sets the decisive accents with her unmistakable voice. Following this more than atmospheric opening, "Evidence" by Faith No More follows, one of the best and perhaps most atypical songs from a band that was at the height of its creative powers in the mid-1990s. Following Pulp's typically ironic track "Sunrise," the collection continues with exceptionally quiet, introverted pieces from bands otherwise known for their sheer volume of noise and rock power, such as Therapy?, 3 Doors Down, and Monster Magnet, whose soulful "Your Lies Become You" served as a fitting conclusion to their 1998 album Powertrip. Further autumnal ballads are also contributed by bands and artists such as dEUS, Shelby Lynne, Ocean Colour Scene, and The Cardigans. The melancholy award for this compilation, however, clearly goes to Element Of Crime with "Warte auf mich" (Wait for me) and Tindersticks, who contributed a track from one of their best albums, Curtains, with "(Tonight) Are You Trying To Fall In Love Again." --Norbert Schiegl
