Details: Franz Adolf Bergwald was a Swedish composer and violinist. Franz Bergwald was born into a Swedish family of musicians of German origin. His father, Christian Friedrich Georg Bergwald (1740-1825) was a student of Franz Benda in Berlin and a violinist in the Stockholm Court Orchestra from 1773 to 1806. His brother Christian August Bergwald (1798-1869) was also a violinist and composed several works, and his cousin, Johan Fredrik Bergwald (1787-1861), was a conductor and also a composer. Most of Bergwald's early compositions are lost or destroyed by himself. In 1841 he traveled to Vienna, where he married his Berlin collaborator Mathilde Scherer and began writing his most important works, the four symphonies and the symphonic poems. Thomas Dausgaard was born on July 4, 1963, in Copenhagen, Denmark. This recording is considered by BBC Magazine... to be the best Bergwald CD in many years.
